After 2022’s many retrospective commemorations of 1922, this event turns the page and asks what is next (and what was always next). Taking “futures” in its widest senses, we invite presentations on your recent work in modernist studies with particular interest in topics such as: the current state and future of the field; modernist artists’ own senses of futurity or anticipation; the Futurists (why not?); the speculative futures of science-fiction; and, most broadly, on all of modernism’s anachronisms and synchronicities. We heartily encourage comparative and interdisciplinary inquiries.

This event will be free, open to the public, and hosted on Zoom. We are pleased to announce that Mark Byron (University of Sydney) will give a keynote address to anchor the day’s conversations.

Please send ~300-word abstracts (for a 15-minute paper) and a brief bio to Kevin Riordan (kriordan@ntu.edu.sg) by 8 December 2022. Along with your proposal, please fill out your time zone availability here: https://tinyurl.com/ModFutures. Finally, we are open to alternative formats for presentations (e.g., book launches, roundtables), and please do be in touch with other ideas for the day’s program.
